Toynbee descended onto the Portsmouth Guildhall on Wednesday the 22nd April for this year’s Rock Challenge competition. Lead by Miss Thompson and Mr Bartlett, the 100 hundred plus strong team took to the stage and was involved in all aspects of the dance piece “Game Over” from hair, make-up, costume, set building, set painting, lighting, video direction, stage crewing and the dancers themselves.
With a rehearsal at 11am on stage, the rest of the day was used to rehearse sections of the piece and to get hairstyles, make up and costumes finalized (amazing how long it all takes and how much hairspray was used).
7:00pm came around and the event began, Toynbee were on fourth out of the twelve schools and colleges competing that day. The performance couldn’t have gone better, all aspects went smoothly and the reaction from the audience and the judges was fantastic.
Once our performance was over, we had to wait for the rest to perform and then the prize giving.
Toynbee won 2 awards:
The Best staging award
The Performers Choice award
The latter being a great testament to the hard work put in by all involved as this was chosen by the other schools and colleges, who also performed that day.
